The documentary project
Following the Kennedy Retrace expedition was an amazing opportunity to research a key figure in Australia's early exploration.
The highlight of the trip was having descendents of the original expedition party travelling with us and walking on the same ground as the Kennedy expedition had done 160 years before.

"You do exceptional things to survive."
|
In following the Edmund Kennedy story we travelled over 2500 km and saw first hand the obstacles that exhausted Kennedy's men and horses, and used up vital time and supplies, especially in the early stages of the expedition.
The country we crossed was so diverse and challenging, from mangrove swamps, tropical jungles and steep rocky gorges, to inhospitable heathland and vast sun-baked plains. Kennedy must have been a skilled surveyor and an exceptional leader and we came away with incredible respect for him after seeing first hand the conditions he and his party had endured.
Many thanks to trek leader Tim Daniel, for his insight and research into Edmund Kennedy, and guides Tom Warnes and Dean Nulty of Wilderness Challenge. Also thanks to Australian Geographic, Cairns Typrepower, Coopers Tires and Cape York Automotive for their valuable support, and to Don and Liz Crossland of Emu Creek Station for their kind hospitality.
We are in the post production phase now and are looking forward to completion of the documentary.
